Auckland Diwali Festival 2018

Kalehri Art and culture Academy from India rock the street zone

Samosa chaat - delish!

Aotea Square and Queen Street -pumping!
I've had delivered this festival for six years from 2012 to 2017. But my workload with both Diwali and Lantern have grown so much that I had to hand it over to Leilana Meredith this year - she did an excellent job!

Ae blossum

The blossums are blooming at Cornwall Park

Perfect opportunity to picnic and sketch

Asian Aotearoa Arts Hui 2018

The Asian Aotearoa Arts Hui 2018
I had a great time at the biggest and most ambitious Hui to date.
Sitting on the balcony of Te Papa's Icon restaurant, I recall ten years ago, Kelly and I being alone here and watching the fireworks for Te Papa's 10th birthday celebrations in 2008 [my last event here].
I assisted the Hui with Comms strategy and also participated as a guest speakers.
Twenty years ago, 1998, I recall submitting an application for funding to Creative NZ for a Chinese Artist Symposium - ultimately unsuccessful then - but really happy that a new crowd of creatives is pushing the envelope!

Churr - presentation in Big Thumb Restaurant.
Facilitated by Lynda Chanwai Earle and  featuring Alison Wong and Tame Iti.

Panel discussion - showing a group of the most creatively superb women that I have the privelege of knowing.
L-R ; Lynda Chanwai Earle, Renee Liang, Alice Canton, Julie Zhu.

While in Wellington I sketched a derelict corner shop in Lyall Bay.
An old Chinese lady used to run this shop and her opening hours were whenever she liked!

Passing through the town of Waikanae, we stopped into the Eastern Egret Restaurant.
My sister was a co-owner when it opened and I created their branding back in 1989!

Cool to catch up and sketch with the Shanghai sketchers

Westlake in Hangzhou - relaxing with coffee and enjoying the dragon flies, lily pads - and a nearby argument and altercation with tourists jostling for photograph spaces!

Another section of Westlake Hangzhou, so beautiful - and I was swamped with tourists wanting to take selfies with me!

BIG DRAW Arts Out East Festival day May 12

We joined the Arts Out East Festival Day, and sketched at Uxbridge Arts Centre in Howick.

Urban Sketchers 10th anniversary

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Urban sketchers network.
We participated, and due to the date line round the world, Auckland kicked things off by going first!
I helped out as well, by volunteering to be the Instagram Oceania correspondent, and uploading sketches from a dozen cities. And then I could sit back and watch the rest of the world's sketchers as they uploaded their efforts - great fun!
My favourite brush pen from Japan, and my favouritebag made in NZ by Cactus
